PI KAPPA LAMBDA was founded at Northwestern University in 1918. Comprised of some 175 chapters and more than 42,000 musicians, membership is open to students in the top 20 percent of their graduating class who excel in academic achievement, musicianship, and personal character. The society is dedicated to fostering scholarly interest in the theory and history of music and to stimulating eminent achievement in performance, composition, music education, and research.
