Phi Eta Sigma
Phi Eta Sigma, Freshman Honor Society
Phi Eta Sigma is an all-disciplines freshman national honor society established in 1923. The local
chapter was formed in 1955. The purpose of Phi Eta Sigma is to encourage and reward
high scholastic achievement among freshmen students in institutions of higher education.
There are over 375 chapters throughout the United States and more than 500,000 members.
Among the activities of Phi Eta Sigma are a topical lecture series, discussion groups,
social events, and national conventions.
Membership
All students who earn a GPA of at least 3.5 either semester of their freshmen year
at SDSU are eligible for membership. At the end of the summer just before beginning
the sophomore year, these students are invited to join via University email. An offical
induction ceremony takes place with the Fall Semester. Students who were eligible
but missed induction after their freshman year may apply to join retroactively only
during the designated membership period in the month of September.

Scholarships
Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society Founders Fund Scholarship--
Applications for this national scholarship are due in February. The SDSU Chapter has
received awards two years in a row. Congratulations to previous recipients: Kevin
Kwoka ($6,000), Ryan Fowler ($6,000) and Jasmin Jakobsen ($1,000).
SDSU Phi Eta Sigma Excellence Awards--
This year, the local Phi Eta Sigma chapter will continue to award these these two
local scholarships. Applications are due in April.
