Alpha Epsilon Delta

PRE-PROFESSIONAL

HEALTH FIELDS

ALPHA EPSILON DELTA was founded in 1926. The local Zeta chapter was established in 1991. The purpose of the society is to encourage academic excellence while stimulating an appreciation of the importance of pre-health professional education in the study of medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physician assistant, optometry, podiatry, pharmacy, and other fields; the society promotes cooperation and contacts between health industry professionals and pre-health professional students and educators in developing an excellent program of education, and to bind together similarly interested students.

Requirements for membership are a 3.2 GPA, and the completion of at least three semesters of science courses. The same requirements pertain to transfer students as long as the courses are transferable to SDSU. Freshmen wishing to join the society must provide high school transcripts showing an overall GPA of 3.6. Initiation is held in the spring semester.

Activities of the society include tutoring for science courses, sponsoring community service events, a blood drive, hands-on learning in professional health fields, workshops on how to write personal statements, tips on the application process and much more. The society also features guest speakers at meetings, hospital tours, and social events.
